Mission Statement

Wrenthorpe Rangers JFC was formed in 1997 by a few local parents who thought that it was about time that their children should have the opportunity to play football within their own village.

From the efforts of a few committed people, Wrenthorpe Rangers was born. Since the club's formation a number of people have helped the club grow to its current status where it offers the children of the village and surrounding area the opportunity to train and play football in a friendly atmosphere. Children from the age of 6 have represented the village of Wrenthorpe in either friendly competitions or participated in the Charles Rice League and previously in the Garforth League.

As a voluntary organisation the club relies on the efforts of committed people to ensure that the opportunity for our children to learn and play our national game continues. Most of all, this opportunity allows the children to have lots and lots of fun. Football is more than a game, it provides the platform from which children can develop social and life skills, to be part of a team, to develop a 'can do' attitude and a hard work ethic together with providing a sense of belonging and community spirit. All of this whilst exercising and having lots of fun for both children and their parents. Older players are supported and encouraged to help deliver training sessions for the benefit of younger players, and to undertake coaching and referee qualifications. By nurturing and growing the volunteers for tomorrow, the Club is demonstrating all the characteristics of self sustaining, progressive, learning organisation.

Exit routes for players are in place with the formation of an open age team in 2004. Wrenthorpe Rangers AFC compete in the Wakefield & District Sunday League. This team too has grown from strength to strength and has been a great success thanks to the help of its volunteers and a great bunch of lads.

Details of all teams fielded by the Club can be found on our web site www.wrenthorperangers.org.

In 2003/4 Wrenthorpe Rangers was awarded the Charter Development Standard which recognises the efforts and hard work of many involved in growing the Club and establishing a solid foundation and Club culture which will sustain the future growth of the Club.

Wrenthorpe Rangers became one of the first Clubs in the area to achieve the Development Standard Club Award. Not satisfied with this the Club aspires to reach the status of Community Club Award and is making excellent progress to reaching its goal. With over 26 qualified Level 1 coaches, 2 Level 2 coaches and Open Age Football. Today players come to join the Club not only from Wrenthorpe, Outwood, Stanley, Lofthouse Gate, Alverthorpe, Kirkhamgate, Carr Gate, St Johns but as far afield as Castleford, Leeds and Huddersfield.

This is how the club exists today and recent recruitment of new staff; managers and players looks set to continue the growth of the club healthily in the future.
